How to View Screenshots or Images in the Agent Environment?

Enable tools to truly read images and distinguish between preview and analysis failures.

Images Require Image Viewing Capability

The Agent's file tool differentiates between reading text and viewing bitmaps. Screenshots and other images should use the image viewing process rather than reading binary files as text. Whether analysis is possible also depends on the current model and environment support.

Having the Agent describe the content that can be confirmed in the image helps determine if it has truly obtained the image.

How to Ask Effective Questions

Specify the image location and the area of focus, such as button states, error messages, or differences between two screenshots. If you need to check yourself, you can also request downloadable attachments.

When comparing two screenshots, indicate the order, page conditions, and the differences you care about. Let the agent first describe the visible changes, then discuss possible reasons; if the screenshots come from different resolutions or login states, these condition differences should be recorded first.

  1. Confirm that the screenshot file has been generated and is no longer being written to.
  2. Specify the image to view and the specific question.
  3. Verify whether the content in the preview matches the target.
  4. Provide supplementary text or clearer partial images for blurry small text.

When Format or Capability Is Not Supported

Oversized images, non-bitmap files, and models that do not support image results may return different errors. PDF or SVG cannot be processed using ordinary screenshot methods directly; text can be extracted or converted according to the format for viewing. Model descriptions do not equal pixel-level verification; important numbers, icon states, and paths should be checked item by item against the actual image.
