How to Make Answers Better Match Your Reading Preferences?

Combine long-term preferences with the current message to specify clear expression styles.

Write Preferences as Executable Requirements

Instead of just writing "be more professional," more specific descriptions are easier to understand, such as "give the conclusion first, then explain the reasons," "retain key terms but explain them for beginners," or "use tables when comparing options." These are preferences for how answers are expressed and cannot replace the background of the question itself, nor do they mean the model has already performed the operations described in the answer.

Set Long-Term and Temporary Needs Separately

Styles used long-term can be placed in Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions under the style field, then click Save. If you only want this one answer to be more detailed, just specify it directly in the current message. Built-in style options can help you get started, but you can also describe your own style without forcibly using fixed labels.

  1. First determine your usual length, structure, and technical level.
  2. Save stable preferences to Custom Instructions.
  3. Specify any different format needed for special tasks in the message.

Iterate Based on Actual Results

If the answer format is still not ideal, you can point out specific issues, such as removing repeated background, adding examples, or explaining a term. Do not remove necessary uncertainty explanations just to unify style; clear expression should make evidence easier to verify. After adjustments, compare with similar small questions to gradually form an explanation style that suits you.
