How to Make Agent Read a Specified File?
Provide the correct file and question to make the reading scope easy to confirm.
First Confirm Where the File Is
Agent reads files from the selected environment. The path on your computer may not exist in the cloud or on another connected computer. You can upload materials or provide a clear file location in the connected target environment.
Do not just say "that file"; write out the file name and its purpose, explaining whether you want a summary, content verification, or problem localization.
Organize Reading According to the Question
Text and code can be processed according to file content; long files need to be read continuously by relevant sections. The line numbers shown by the tool are positioning information and should not be treated as part of the original file text.
If file names are similar, you can first have the agent list candidate files and their purposes for you to confirm the target. For code issues, also specify at which step the error occurs; reading only an isolated file may be insufficient to judge call relationships, so supplement related parts as needed.
- Confirm the selected environment and target file.
- Specify the chapters, functions, or keywords that need to be checked.
- Request to quote relevant lines or original text fragments to support conclusions.
- Confirm the actual coverage scope and supplement missing parts if necessary.
File Does Not Exist or Reading Failed
First verify the path spelling, directory, and connection status, then determine if access permissions are missing. Do not repeatedly change paths to try reading without confirming the environment. Binary images cannot be analyzed as ordinary text; scanned materials and complex formats may also require conversion. Completion of reading does not mean the file has been modified; modifications require separately specifying the target and complying with permission modes.
