Can Agents Delegate Work to Subtasks?

When the feature is available, use clearly bounded subtasks to handle independent issues in parallel.

Depends on Current Feature Availability

The code supports Agents delegating work with clear boundaries to subtasks, but this capability is controlled by the current session's feature availability and is not guaranteed to be open for every account and task. If no subtask entry or activity appears, it should not be directly judged as a product malfunction.

Subtasks are also subject to limits on quantity, permissions, and usage, and should not be understood as free unlimited model work.

Suitable Work for Splitting

Mutually independent material checks, verification from different perspectives, or clearly scoped reproductions are more suitable to be handled separately. Work that requires the results of a previous step to start should generally proceed sequentially.

For example, when separating data verification and result review, the review task can independently check based on the original materials without being pre-informed of the expected conclusion. The value of delegation lies in clear division of labor and traceable output, not simply increasing the number of simultaneous tasks.

  1. Write clear goals, inputs, and completion criteria for each subtask.
  2. Avoid having multiple subtasks modify the same content simultaneously.
  3. Allow the main task to continue work that does not depend on subtask results.
  4. Finally, integrate conclusions and check for conflicts.

Permissions Do Not Expand Through Delegation

Subtasks inherit corresponding permission boundaries; sensitive operations still need to be handled according to the same rules; subtasks cannot create further nested tasks indefinitely. Some capabilities cannot be directly delegated; the main task needs to first obtain necessary information before providing bounded materials. You should evaluate results based on final evidence, rather than treating multiple agents producing the same statement as independent verification guarantees.
