How to Set the Default Execution Environment for New Tasks?
Select the default environment in the agent settings, and also pay attention to the environment saved in old chats.
Explicit Selection in Settings
Open the sidebar user menu → Settings → Agent, find the default execution environment, and use the environment selector to choose from connected desktops, Local Agent, or cloud options available to your account. Confirm the computer name and online status before selecting. The currently available environments depend on connection status and account permissions; the default setting will not start programs on offline computers, nor will it automatically grant cloud permissions that have not yet been enabled.
Default Value Differs from Existing Tasks
Manual environment selections are saved as the new chat default preference on this device; when reopening existing chats, the interface may restore the environment saved with that chat. Therefore, after changing the default value, opening old tasks and still seeing the original computer does not necessarily mean the setting is ineffective. Do not interpret this preference as a unified execution rule across all devices; always check the actual selection in the input area before sending important operations.
Handling When the Default Machine Is Offline
If the default computer is unavailable, first restore the desktop or CLI connection to that computer, or select another ready environment for the task you are about to start. Before switching machines, confirm that the required files, tools, and network are indeed present; the default environment only selects the execution location and does not automatically transfer the working directory. You can verify by first reading the working directory with a new task, then performing clearly scoped formal operations.
