How to Start Agent Tasks in a Project from a Specified Local Directory?

Bind an existing directory when creating a project on the desktop and wait for the desktop connection to be ready.

Create a Project on the Desktop and Select a Directory

The project creation interface in Hackcat Desktop offers an optional local folder, allowing you to open the system directory selector via "Use Existing Folder." After selection, the path is displayed, and if the project name is empty, the directory name can be used as the initial name. If you are only organizing related chats, binding a directory is not necessary; the directory is not a required field for creating a standard project, and you do not need to create a new disk copy for each project.

Wait for Connection Before Starting from the Project

After binding the directory, the interface indicates that new Agent tasks will start from here. When the desktop is not yet connected, the directory selection itself can exist, but tasks depending on that directory must wait until the connection is ready. If you receive a prompt to connect the desktop when creating a task from the project, first open and log in to Desktop on the target computer, confirm the status, then return to the project to continue. Do not switch to the cloud assuming the same path is still accessible.

Directory Location Does Not Equal Disk Isolation

Binding a directory mainly provides a clear working location for tasks and should not be assumed to mean all local commands are run inside a container. Host execution still uses the current user’s permissions, requiring you to control the scope of commands and file modifications. For the first task, you can request a report of the working directory and list a small number of files to confirm the correct location. It is recommended to back up important content yourself first before allowing specific write or tool operations.
